On 17 August 1980 Alice Lynne (Lindy) Chamberlain was camping with her husband, Michael, and children at the Ayer's Rock camping ground when her youngest child, Azaria, disappeared from the family tent. Lindy Chamberlain was subsequently convicted of the murder of her daughter and sentenced to life imprisonment. The National Freedom Council, established in 1984, grew out of the Plea for Justice Committee which formed in the wake of Lindy Chamberlain's conviction and life sentence in 1982. The Committee sought a judicial review of the Chamberlain case and that Lindy Chamberlain be released from prison pending the outcome of that review. The Council was also involved in other cases where forensic science and circumstantial evidence had majored in convictions. From the description of Records of...
